The mission of the Houston Black Dance Collective is to support Houston-based dance companies and studios, and individual dancers and choreographers who are a part of the African Diaspora, and to foster a space of collaboration amongst Houston’s black dance community.
– Promote dance workshops, performances, and other activities and events throughout the HBDC network and to the greater Houston community
– Provide a professional performance platform for dance artists through Dance Afrikana’s Kuumba Festival
– Address the overall needs of Houston’s black dance community
Membership
Eligibility
– Houston-based individual dancer or choreographer who is a member of the African Diaspora
– Houston-based dance organization wherein 80% or more of membership is of the African Diaspora and/or an organization/studio that focuses on dance of Africa/African Diaspora
Annual Dues: $25 Individuals, $40 Organizations
Member Benefits
– Eligibility to perform at Dance Afrikana’s Kuumba Festival
– Promotion of dance events through monthly newsletter and social media
– Event postings on the HBDC calendar
– Access to special meetings and events
In light of Juneteenth and the COVID-19 pandemic, and to show solidarity with our community members impacted by racism and police brutality, membership fees will be waived for those who join by July 19th.
