Frame Dance presents a restaging of 50 Looks, Merce Cunningham’s landmark solo work, performed in Rienzi’s gardens. 50 Looks is a late work by Merce Cunningham that distills his lifelong inquiry into chance, independence, and the autonomy of movement. Created in 2001, the piece unfolds as a sequence of discrete “looks”—short movement studies drawn from Cunningham’s extensive vocabulary—recombined through chance procedures rather than narrative or musical cues.
The house will open at 5 pm for guests to explore the collection with stationed docents. The performance will begin at 6 pm in the gardens and lasts about 25 minutes. A Q&A session with the performers and artistic directors will follow.
