July 9 FUTURE FIGURES: Dance and Emerging Technologies Livestream
Emerging technologies rewrite what dance can be: how it’s made, how it’s taught, how it travels, who gets to participate. FUTURE FIGURES: Dance and Emerging Technologies gathers choreographers, technologists, and audiences for a day of pointed conversations, live performance/demonstrations, and talks from some of the most interesting artists working at the seam of dance and technology. The through-line: what happens when dancers stop reacting to new tools and start building them.
FREE PUBLIC KEYNOTE VIA LIVESTREAM
A public keynote by Sydney Skybetter, Director of the Brown Arts Institute at Brown University, will be available to the public with a free livestream at 10am ET. Skybetter argues that the future of dance is being authored right now, in laboratories, aerospace contracts, and AI training sets, and that choreographers have a historical claim to that work. Following the keynote, Skybetter facilitates a series of discussions with preeminent choreographers and stakeholders working at the intersection of dance and technology.
