Act I of BAHBT’s spring production will include both classical and contemporary pas de deuxs, solo and ensembles works. Our dancers will dazzle with their artistry and athleticism.
Set in the Royal India of the past, La Bayadère is a story of eternal love, mystery, fate, vengeance, and justice. The ballet relates the drama of a temple dancer, Nikiya, who is loved by Solor, a noble warrior. BAHBT will perform a divertissement of Act II: the betrothal of Solor and Gamzatti (daughter of the Solton).
La Bayadère received its World Premiere by the Imperial Ballet at the Bolshoi in St. Petersburg on February 4, 1877. The word bayadère is French for Indian temple dancer.
