As the fourth collaboration between composer George Heathco and choreographer Toni Valle, “make/SHIFT” integrates contemporary and aerial dance, chambor music, and video projections, where the roles of each will bind, blend, and blur into one another, to seamlessly interact in both visual and acoustic space.
Blurring the lines between ingenuity and desperation, communites across Houston are dotted with makeshift elements. The word “makeshift” describes an improvised solution that is intended to be temporary, often born from an absence of a necessity and a lack of resources. While many quick fixes are supplanted by a stable alternative, some never make the leap and are left to remain in place. What happens to hope when the short-term becomes long-term?
