Samskriti's mission is to bring the East and the West closer through the arts. Indian Performing Arts Samskriti, established in 1995, is the first Indian American organization in Houston to take Indian Folk and Traditional dance forms to the mainstream, thus changing the city's cultural landscape forever. Samskriti has introduced world renowned Indian dancers to Houston audiences, has produced and commissioned programs that are culturally relevant, and was the first organization to present cross-cultural and multidisciplinary dance events in Houston. Samskriti organizes not only dance programs but also educational workshops, seminars, and conferences with invited performers, scholars, dance historians and other experts in the field. The first Indian dance organization to present shows at the Miller Outdoor Theatre, Samskriti continues to bring outstanding and unique programs to Houston's diverse audiences, often showcasing local artists. Agnes de Mille once said, 'to understand a nation, listen to its songs, look at its dances', and Samskriti is doing just that - making audiences see and enjoy our dances.
