Group Acorde is a performance company formed by two contemporary dancers; Roberta Paixao Cortes and Lindsey McGill and two experimental jazz musicians; Thomas Helton and Seth Paynter who innovatively collaborate in all aspects of the creation process. Its movement is inspired by classical background and its music is primarily composed of saxophone and bass. The company’s main programs are public performances and “pay what you can” classes and workshops to the community. Group Acorde has created original works by its members and collaborated with guest artists; Israeli choreographer Anat Grigorio, Texas choreographer Jennifer Mabus, Texas composer Andrew Leinhard, Brazilian visual artist Andre Amaral, Texas based choreographer Spencer Gavin Hering, Texas based soprano Natasha Manley, New York based photographer Christopher Peddecord and New York based pianist Robert Boston. Its work has been showcased throughout venues and dance festivals in Houston and Austin and Group Acorde has been awarded Performing Arts Houston’s commission project New/Now in 2024. In 2025 the company is creating its fifth evening length production in collaboration with queer choreographer and Dance Magazine’s 25 to watch awardee Jasmine Hearn. Group Acorde has received support from individual donors, Houston Arts Alliance, Dance Source Houston and Texas Commission for the Arts.
