Flamenco is an art form based on the various folk music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gypsy subculture of the region of Andalusia. The art is a creative connection between the song (cante), musicianship (toque), and the dance (baile). In this workshop, you will learn about the elements of Flamenco dance technique including: Colocación (posture & demeanor) Floreo (hand flourishes) Braceo (Arm movement) Marcajes (marking the time) Palmas & Compás (hand claps & rhythm) Zapateado (footwork) Vueltas (turns) A choreography in the Tangos rhythm. EVERYONE is welcome to this workshop no matter your dance skills or experience. It is encouraged for those with dance experience in any genre who are interested in learning Flamenco and expanding their dance knowledge. Workshop will be taught by Andrea Gonzalez, an inspired and skilled Flamenco dancer, choreographer, and instructor based in Houston, TX. As a native of San Antonio, TX she commenced her studies of Flamenco and ballet folklórico de Mexico at the age of 3 years old. Her passion and studies extended to classical ballet and pointe, jazz, tap, modern, Afrikan dance, and contemporary dance. Andrea has toured nationally as a member of Solero Flamenco since moving to the Houston area in 2021 and enjoys every opportunity to collaborate and present works with artists of all genres. Her dance style and technique reflects a life long commitment to her passion and years of studying multiple dance disciplines.
