Teresa Chapman is a choreographer, researcher, and educator. She is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Dance Program at the University of Houston where she teaches dance technique, kinesiology, and pedagogy. As a performer in Houston, she worked with Karen Stokes Dance and other Houston-based choreographers including Toni Leago Valle, Erin Reck, Amy Ell, and Becky Valls. In the past, she performed with various artists in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC (Liz Lerman Dance Exchange), New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Hamburg, Germany (CATS). Chapman is an independent choreographer and produces work under the company name Chapman Dance. www.chapmandance.com. Her work has been presented at DiverseWorks Art Space, Miller Outdoor Theatre, Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex, MATCH, the Kaplin Theater, Cunningham Studios in New York City, CHI Movement Arts Center in Philadelphia and Music Mountain Theater in New Jersey. In addition, her work has been commissioned by the University of Nebraska, West Virginia University, UC Santa Barbara, Bucknell University, and Houston Contemporary Dance. She has received multiple internal UH grants. She has also secured external funding from Houston Arts Alliance Individual Artist and Project grants over the years to support her work. Chapman received her MFA in Dance from California State University, Long Beach.
